Power and Performance
There are four main engine options for the new F-150. All F-150 models are available with either rear-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). The base model comes standard with a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 282 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque.
New for 2017 are two highly-efficient EcoBoost engines. There's a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 that delivers 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque and has EPA-rated fuel economy of 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway (2WD) or 18 mpg city/23 mpg highway (4WD). For more serious hauling and towing needs, go with the bigger 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6; it cranks out 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, and is EPA-rated at 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway (2WD) and 17 mpg city/23 mpg highway (4WD).
Purists needn't worry though. You can still get the venerable 5.0-liter V8, which generates 385 horsepower and 387 pound-feet of torque, and is rated at 15 mpg city/22 mpg highway (2WD) or 15 mpg city/21 mpg highway (4WD).
Then there's the Raptor. The F-150 Raptor is a powerful off-roading machine that uses the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 but has been performance-tuned to deliver an eye-opening 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, perfect for desert-running and rock-crawling.
Features and Options
In addition to its engine choices, the F-150 is available in three cab configurations (regular, SuperCab and SuperCrew) and three bed lengths. Either a 6.5- or a 8-foot bed is available on regular and SuperCabs, while the SuperCrew can be ordered with either a 5.5- or a 6.5-foot bed.
The F-150 also comes in six main trim levels (in addition to the Raptor): they include XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited. As you might expect, the base XL is...well, pretty basic, but can optioned up to include everything from power windows and locks, to Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity to work-assist features like the Pro Trailer Backup Assist system.
At the other end of the spectrum, you have luxury-level models like the F-150 Platinum and the F-150 Limited. With these trim levels come upscale features like leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, power-deployable running boards, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seating, a heated steering wheel, an 11-speaker high-end Sony audio system and the SYNC 3 infotainment system. You also get advanced driver assist technologies, including adaptive cruise control with forward collision mitigation and an automated parallel parking system.
